A Message from Debbie…

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It has been several months since I have sent an update on Pattie’s situation. There are several items which I believe will be of interest to you. Many of you have continued to be in touch with Pattie or with me over this time, and you can be assured that we deeply appreciate your ongoing interest and support.

On the health front, Pattie continues to receive treatment for ovarian cancer and is feeling well and strong. She had another major surgery in August followed by some chemotherapy and radiation. Pattie has helped organize a clinical trial that will soon be testing an advanced form of immune therapy for ovarian cancer, in which she will be participating with 35 other women. This is an important project that she will be helping to raise money for, and Pattie is very excited about its prospects.

Since March of this year, when Judge Cunningham in Santa Clara County dismissed all criminal charges against her, Pattie has focused on her health and family, and has also taken on some new assignments in the non-profit world. She continues to focus on Larkin Street Youth Services in San Francisco, which helps homeless and runaway youth get off the streets for good, and continues to work on the Advisory Board for the Haas School of Business (at the University of California, her alma mater), where she recently taught a class on “Power and Politics” to 120 MBA students. I was thrilled to be able to “sit in” and observe her lecture and the students’ reactions to it. She also joined the board of the San Francisco Symphony early this year, and recently joined the Advisory Board of the Rock Center for Corporate Governance at Stanford. In January she will join the board of the UCSF Medical Center Foundation and the Ohana Foundation in Hawaii, which provides grants for education and medical expenses to local residents. Pattie is grateful to have the energy and well-being to be involved in all these good causes!

Unfortunately, the unpleasantness of the H-P situation hasn’t gone away entirely, as Tom Perkins’ autobiography is being published this week. He devotes the entire first chapter to his rendition of Pattie’s role in the leak investigation and its aftermath. You may not be surprised to learn that Mr. Perkins’ rendition is based on gross distortions and factual errors, the purpose of which seem only to be to further damage Pattie’s reputation.

We expect there will be press coverage of his book because Mr. Perkins will be promoting it during the next few weeks, beginning with an appearance on “60 Minutes” this Sunday, November 4. We wanted you to be prepared for this barrage and to let you know that we are paying close attention to Mr. Perkins’ statements.
